The Al-Khorezmi International Mathematical Olympiad (AKHIMO) is a mathematics competition for undergraduate students. Its mission is to enhance intellectual potential and inspire students to pursue STEM education. AKHIMO aims to identify and nurture students' creative talents and research interests while fostering an international network and intercultural relationships among participants from various countries. Additionally, it celebrates the significant contributions of Muhammad Al-Khorezmi to fundamental sciences. The primary goal of AKHIMO is to motivate students to engage deeply with the exact sciences and broaden their international collaborations, all while exploring the scientific heritage of Central Asia, particularly Uzbekistan. The inaugural AKHIMO took place at Urgench State University from October 26-31, 2018, featuring teams from 58 universities, including 35 institutions from 20 countries. The second Olympiad was held at Karakalpak State University from October 23-29, 2023, with participation from 40 universities across 14 countries. The third AKHIMO is scheduled for May 26-31, 2025, at Urgench State University, where we expect to host 100 teams from approximately 50 countries. Although AKHIMO is primarily an individual competition, there is also a team component. The official language of AKHIMO is English.
The inaugural al-Khorezmi International Mathematics Olympiad took place in Urganch from October 26 to 31, 2018. This event saw participation from over 58 universities, totaling 334 competitors, including 35 institutions from 20 different countries. Winners were recognized at the Olympiad, with 14 participants receiving gold medals, 23 earning silver, and 29 awarded bronze. Additionally, 33 individuals received motivational certificates for their exceptional performances. The highest scores were achieved by Hao Ran Wang from Peking University and Ali Daei Nabi from Sharif University of Technology in Iran. Other award recipients included Min Huiyou Yang and Yibo Ji from Peking University, Talibjon Ismailov and Sardor Bazarbayev from the National University of Uzbekistan, Daniyor Yazdanov from Samarkand State University, Gayrat Toshpolatov from Tashkent University of Information Technologies, Khurshid Juraev from Yerevan State University, Arsen Ambartsumyan from Sichuan University, Pengfei Yin from the University of Tartu, Oliver Nisumaa, Murat Chashemov from Makhtumkuli Turkmen State University, and Vahid Shakhverdi from Amirkabir Technological University. Cultural events and tours were also organized during the Olympiad.
The Olympiad scheduled for 2020 have been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The second Olympiad was held in Nukus from October 23 to 29, 2023. The Olympiad featured 156 participants from 26 local universities and 69 from 14 foreign institutions. After the competition, 13 participants received gold medals, 18 were awarded silver, and 33 earned bronze medals. Throughout the event, participants enjoyed organized trips to Khiva, Nukus, Samarkand, and Tashkent.
